Surrounded by his loving family, Joe’s passing marks the loss of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life touched many.

Joseph M. Baltazar was a man defined by dedication, humility, and strong family values. Born on November 10, 1956, in São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late David S. and Maria Rosa (Peixoto) Baltazar. At the age of 11, he immigrated to the United States, settling in Lowell, Massachusetts, where he built his life, raised his family, and formed lasting community ties.
He attended local schools and graduated from Lowell High School, beginning a lifelong journey rooted in hard work and perseverance.
Career and Work Ethic
Joe dedicated his entire professional life to working as a truck driver, beginning his career with Baker Commodities. He later contributed to major infrastructure projects, including the Big Dig and the widening of Route 3, playing a part in significant developments across Massachusetts.
He eventually returned to Baker Commodities, where he worked for more than 20 years until his retirement. Known for his reliability and strong work ethic, Joe earned the respect of colleagues and peers throughout his career.
Community and Faith
A proud member of the Portuguese-American community, Joe was actively involved in several organizations, including the Portuguese American Civic League, the Red’s Club, the Portuguese American Center, and the Blue’s Club.
He was also a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, where his faith and community involvement were an important part of his life.
Family and Personal Life
Above all, Joe’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He shared nearly 49 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maria (Pimentel) Baltazar, building a life centered on love, faith, and resilience.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters:
- Lisa Brown and her husband Harold of Lowell
- Sandra Borges and her husband Alex of Tyngsboro
He was a devoted grandfather to:
- Abigail Brown
- Tiago Borges
- Leandro Borges
Joe is also survived by his brothers, David Baltazar of Lowell and Charlie Baltazar of Arizona, along with many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and close friends.
Legacy
Joe Baltazar will be remembered for his strong work ethic, deep devotion to family, and lifelong commitment to his community and heritage. His presence brought stability, love, and strength to those around him, and his memory will continue to live on through his children and grandchildren.
Funeral Arrangements
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at McDonough Funeral Home in Lowell, followed by funeral services and burial at Lowell Cemetery.
